The Babel Bike is, according to its inventor Crispin Sinclair, ‘the biggest step forward in bicycle safety since 1884’. The inspiration for the bicycle with safety cage came one day after Sinclair bounced off the side of a turning van.

Around two thirds of all fatalities in London traffic are caused by accidents between cyclists and trucks and busses. Sinclair, son of the famous inventor Sir Clive, realized that the city’s aim to get more people on bikes, something had to be done on bicycle safety.

Sinclair immediately had the idea of adding a safety cell, similar to the roll cage of racing cars, to the bicycle. He put a team together and after lots of prototyping came up with the Babel Bike, for the production of which Sinclair is now seeking funds through Indiegogo.
