Some say that we are living in a more complex, volatile, ambiguous period, but designer and design strategist Jaakko Tammela likes to say that this is a natural human condition. In a breakout session at WDCD Live São Paulo he will discuss the advantages of new technologies to deal with the issues at hand.
Jaakko Tammela is a Brazilian-born industrial designer, son of a Finnish craftsman, who believes we will be able to (re)design the world by creatively empowering people and teach them a design behaviour. A post graduate in Marketing and Creative Leadership, Tammela is in charge of the Creative Empowerment unit of design and innovation agency Questto|Nó with offices in Rio de Janeiro and New York. He lectures on strategy and management in the postgraduate programs at Istituto Europeo di Design São Paulo. Throughout his career Tammela received more than 30 design awards including IDEA, GOOD, IF and Red Dot Awards.
Complexity is nothing new
Tammela’s basic thought for the breakout is that complexity is nothing new in our lives and that we are actually returning to our essence, to our soul, with the support of technology, knowledge and process capabilities we’ve never seen before. Now is the perfect time to deal with the complex issues that we’ve created or that always have existed, Tammela states. It is time to make a difference.
Studying designers and change-makers Questto|Nó found several attitudes that it condensed into two mind-sets: leap and craft. Those two mind-sets allow organizations and individuals to be more aware of the present situation and more agile in developing meaningful solutions. Based on several cases studies Tammela will discuss this concept and how it is positively impacting groups and organizations today.
