This week we will witness the epic 5th edition of What Design Can Do!. Two days filled with presentations, discussions and workshops on the impact of design on society. No more time to hesitate. Decide now and buy your tickets before it is too late.
But there is even more. As if a two-day conference weren’t enough it will be followed by the two-day film festival What Film Can Do! on Saturday and Sunday. Two days full of design films and documentaries at De Balie in Amsterdam. Surely not to be missed either.
Learn how 3D printing is changing the world in Print the Legend after an introductory talk by product designer Michiel van der Kley. Or see the effect of urban farming in cities in America on the way people eat and the shape of the city in Growing Cities. Or get acquainted with the worlds of Sign Painters or the Maker Movement (Maker).
On Sunday the work and vision of Japanese architect and Master of Minimalism Tadao Ando is shown in From Emptiness to Infinity. The screening of this documentary will be introduced by architect Uri Gilad of Office Winhov.
Microtopia explores how architects, artists and ordinary problem-solvers are pushing the limits to find answers to their dreams of portability, flexibility – and of creating independence from “the grid”.
The festival closes on Sunday evening with three short movies: Mumbai: Maximum City under Pressure, Gran Horizonte: around the day in 80 worlds, and Torre David: The World’s Tallest Squat.
So why not sit back and watch a film, enjoy some candy, deepen your understanding, broaden your knowledge, and learn more about the impact of design, all at the same time!
Buy your tickets for these films on De Balie website and remember: WDCD attendants get a discount.
