Ladies and gentlemen, we’re proud to announce the legendary Peter Saville as a speaker under the What Design Can Do for Music theme at WDCD Live Amsterdam 2016! Profit from our 10% early bird discount on tickets (until 5 May) to meet this designer of iconic record sleeves for Joy Division, New Order and many more.

Peter Saville is an artist and designer whose contribution to culture has been truly unique. As a founder and art director of the legendary independent UK label Factory Records he accessed a mass audience through pop music, best exemplified in the series of record sleeves he created for Joy Division and New Order between 1979 and 1993. Other artists Saville designed for include King Crimson, Roxy Music, Duran Duran, Wham!, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ultravox and Peter Gabriel.

His radical designs seemed to break all the rules, omitting information about artists or titles, fundamentally questioning modes of consumption and communication. His recent work encompasses design, art and culture, including commissions for high-end fashion labels. He is consultant creative director to the City of Manchester and collaborated with Transport for Greater Manchester in 2008 for the re-branding of the Metrolink tram system.

Saville’s achievements were celebrated in ‘The Peter Saville Show’ at the Design Museum in London in 2003. His first major show in a contemporary art museum was at the Migros Museum in Zurich in 2005 and he continues to exhibit internationally.

A first monograph on Saville’s work, Rick Poynor’s Designed by Peter Saville, was published by Frieze, 2003. Saville has three D&AD awards, is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and a Royal Designer for Industry and won the London Design Medal in 2013.
