Sixty students from design schools in Singapore will have the exceptional opportunity to receive coaching by our challenge leader Dagan Cohen during an 18-hour Ideathon in Singapore as part of IKEA Singapore’s Young Designer Awards 2017.

Launched in 2014, the IKEA Singapore’s Young Designer Awards (YDA) is a design competition platform for tertiary students to showcase their creative design ideas for home furnishing solutions. This year the competition will kick off with an 18-hour Ideathon on 29th June 2017, as the design competition brief is aligned with the global WDCD Climate Action Challenge, to which IKEA Foundation and Autodesk Foundation are partners.

Five finalists

Between 3 pm on 29 June and 9am on 30 June, sixty students in teams of two or three or working alone will work on ideas that help people cope with or adapt to climate change in 5 key areas: Food, Water, Housing, Health and Energy within Asia. Students will then pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts. Ultimately, they will select five submissions that will make it to the next round in the IKEA Singapore’s Young Designer Awards.

In this second phase other students from Singapore will have a chance to enter their ideas to the YDA until 14 August. A jury will select five finalists that will receive help to submit their concepts to the WDCD Climate Action Challenge and funding to produce an actual design prototype or 3D model.

From these 5 finalists an overall winner will be chosen at the closure of an exhibition that takes place from 9 and 22 September. The overall winner will be awarded the Grand Prize of 1.500 Singapore dollars. And, who knows, later on one of the awards in the WDCD Climate Action Challenge.
