Maureen de Jong is a culinary artist who specialises in inter-culinary exchange, personal food heritage and how both can be a means to form relationships and build community. Her work is an ongoing journey in search of the meaning of one’s culture and heritage through food.

She creates live events at the intersection of food, art, local economy and social impact such as the TRANSVAAL BACCHANAAL, an annual storytelling dinner where local food experts and professional chefs meet in the kitchen and share secrets and flavours. She is also a guest curator for Year of Shadow, where participants are given the opportunity to explore a part of themselves based on a specific theme. In each project she emphasises and transcends cultural differences in a theatrical, performative way and strives for diversity and inclusivity.
