WDCD MX, Igualdades.org, and Rótulos Bautista invite you to dismantle the phrases and messages that perpetuate discrimination, misogyny, and hate speech, using signage as a tool for inclusion.
In this workshop we will create counter-narratives that celebrate diversity and promote equity, challenging the notion that one group is superior to another.
Giovanni Bautista, a graphic designer and sign painter by heritage, has honed his talent as a sign art artist, blending image and lettering, inspired by the tradition of his Bautista Rojas family. He currently serves as the creative director of Rótulos Bautista, a workshop founded in 1983 by master Arturo Bautista in Villa de Etla, Oaxaca. His work focuses on creating and reinterpreting traditional Mexican sign painting with an artistic approach.
In recent years, Giovanni has led artistic and commercial collaborations with various personalities and brands such as Levi’s, Netflix, New Era, HBO, and most recently, Disney.
In addition to directing and executing projects at the workshop, Giovanni has taught Mexican Sign Painting workshops at institutions such as the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín, the Artes de México publishing house, and the Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART). He has also participated in conferences and festivals such as the International Typography Congress, Tipografília, in Mexico City, the Letrástica Festival in Guadalajara, the Typography Mexico Congress 2023, and he is scheduled for an artistic residency at Casa Taller José Clemente Orozco in Guadalajara in 2024.
