An interactive workshop to discover your preconceived ideas about race & what it means to be white

Hosted by Sunny Bergman & Jerry Afriyie

In this interactive workshop, documentary maker and writer Sunny Bergman and anti-racism activist and poet Jerry Afriyie investigate the notion of ‘whiteness’. Generally, it is thought that racist ideas mainly exist among lower educated people voting for nationalist parties like the Dutch PVV. But what colours the views of the higher educated white who think they are morally right and pretend that colour doesn’t make any difference? And why do many white people react upset when racism and white privileges are discussed?

Format
In an interactive set-up and using film footage Afriyie and Bergman will challenge the workshop participants to honestly consider social power relations and their own blind spots.

Takeaway
This workshop will make you aware of hidden preconceptions on differences between people of different skin colours. Being aware of these concealed prejudices is of great value for everyone working in communications in the broadest sense.

THIS WORKSHOP will TAKE PLACE ON May 24 AT 11.30 – 13.00 IN THE GIJSBRECHT BORDES, STADSSCHOUWBURG
