What hidden narratives lie within waste textiles?
Stitching Stories
Join Femke van Gemert for a hands-on outdoor workshop exploring the beauty of reusing textiles. Together, we will transform discarded fabrics into a collaborative artwork braiding knotting, layering, and assembling materials to reveal their hidden stories. Along the way, we’ll embrace imperfections and rethink the value of textiles through creative reuse.
Textiles carry stories
Fabrics hold memories—of personal journeys, cultural traditions, and craftsmanship. Yet, many garments are discarded (and textiles in the production process), contributing to waste and environmental challenges. By repurposing these materials, we not only reduce waste but also uncover new possibilities for design and storytelling.
Objective
Participants will learn practical techniques for working with waste textiles while co-creating a unique collective piece.
Format
This outdoor workshop, led by Femke van Gemert, invites participants of all skill levels to engage in an inspiring process of collective making. Through shared creativity, we will reconnect with materials and explore the power of reuse in a new way to address textile waste worldwide .
Facilitation
This workshop is facilitated by textile artist Femke van Gemert.
