In Ansiudad, the government has been overwhelmed by three unexpected incidents that have shaken the metropolis. Now, it needs the help of its ansiudadanxs —concerned but proactive citizens— to imagine new strategies to tackle these challenges.

As a player, you will be part of a citizens’ council where each participant will take on a unique social role, with specific interests that you must balance and protect in harmony with those of the other players. This council is tasked with developing proposals to improve the situation in Ansiudad, which will be presented at the Ansiudadana Summit. The summit will evaluate the ideas and select the winning proposal. Only the team with the best solution will contribute to Ansiudad’s future and be recognized as an exemplary ansiudadanx.

Created by Gabriel Sánchez and Andrea Norzagaray, graduates of the Master’s in Design Studies and professors at CENTRO, in collaboration with Mishka de Caro. The project was developed as part of the UNESCO Chair: Design Methods for Democratic Access to the Future Imagination, under the direction of Karla Paniagua and Jorge Camacho.

It is currently in the prototyping phase and will be tested for the first time at What Design Can Do México 2024.

How to Play?

Total Game Time: 120 minutes

  1. Team Formation: Six teams will be formed, each with a maximum of 10 members. The Ansiudadana Summit will have already assigned the incident each team must work on. The possible incidents are:
  • Mobility and transportation
  • Waste management
  • Water crisis
  1. Role Assignment: Each member will randomly select a character card. This role will have unique interests that must be considered and protected in relation to the other members of the council. The available roles are:
  • Children
  • Youth
  • Women
  • Gender non-conforming individuals
  • Elderly people
  • Business owners
  • Nature
  1. Initial Discussion: The council will have 10 minutes to discuss the assigned incident and share the interests of each role.
  2. Explanation of the Call: The president of the Ansiudadana Summit will briefly explain the rules of the call.
  3. Ideation: Teams will apply the ideation technique known as Crazy 8’s. For 8 minutes, each member will draw 8 proposals, keeping in mind the interests of the character they represent. This will result in 8 low-fidelity prototypes per participant.
  4. Idea Debate: After 8 minutes, the team will debate which idea or set of ideas to further develop for presentation to the Ansiudadana Summit. They will have 10 minutes for this discussion.
  5. Unexpected News: After the debate, teams will be asked to draw a news card. This news will present a new challenge or change in conditions, which they must consider and adjust their solution accordingly.
  6. Final Presentation: The Ansiudadana committees will define the final proposal, which a committee representative will present to the Ansiudadana Summit.
  7. Evaluation: Teams will be recognized for their performance in different categories, and a winner will be selected.
